LAST TOURNAMENT

The 2026-27 season of the eNASCAR College iRacing Series presented by Logitech G kicked off with a bang in the opening Tournament of the season at EchoPark Speedway. After the opening week of the Peachtree Pursuit pinned 40 drivers against one another in the 100-lap Final Round, many of the same front runners from the Quarterfinals and Semifinals, such as UNC at Charlotte’s Connor Trifari and Calgary’s Connor Yeroschak, were at the front of the pack early and often.

A few cautions split up the strategy and changed up the order. Sacramento State’s Dylan Ault took control and held it as long as he could, but before the race went into eNASCAR Overtime, DeSales’ Brian Mercurio took the lead for the final restart. As they took the white flag, the field exploded. Ault and Yeroschak were out of it, but Mercurio was able to recover back into third.

Now at the front, Tarrant County’s Jacob Wilkerson and Western Connecticut State’s Jonathan Evans were battling it out. Evans took the low line into Turn 3, but Wilkerson fought back on the top with momentum out of Turn 4. Mercurio, with help from Triton’s Adam Garza, was able to get back, but not in time, and it was Wilkerson claiming his maiden win.

TRACK INFO

Opened in 1960 by Bruton Smith and NASCAR driving legend Curtis Turner with the running of the longest stock car race in history, the World 600, the Charlotte Motor Speedway closed before it would ultimately become the home track of so many NASCAR teams. Just a year after the first race the 1.5-mile the oval track was in bankruptcy, done in by a huge infield rock formation that ballooned construction costs far beyond what its two founders had forecast.

Almost 60 years later nearly everything is different. More than 89,000 seats ring the race track, which was the first superspeedway to install lights for night racing; the first race track to incorporate a condominium apartment complex overlooking the racing surface; the first to build an office complex with the same view; the first race track to sell naming rights; and the first to open a year-round club where members can spectate during races and socialize with fellow club members at other times. Everything is very different from 1960 except for one thing: Charlotte Motor Speedway is still owned by Bruton Smith.

These days Charlotte Motor Speedway is the queen of a publicly-traded motorsports empire controlled by Smith. Ousted from the track in 1962, Smith went on to a successful career in automotive retailing and by 1975 was able to buy back control. With the legendary H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler managing the day-to-day operations and promoting the races with flair and imagination, the track was soon among the most successful in the world.

ABOUT THE SERIES

The eNASCAR College iRacing Series presented by Logitech G gives college students from the United States and Canada the opportunity to compete for their share of $60,000 in scholarships. Using the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series vehicles, 100 drivers qualify for each Tournament by registering and posting their fastest lap times in the Time Attack through the iRacing UI. With hundreds of colleges and universities represented in each Time Attack, drivers are competing not only against the greater iRacing community, but also their own classmates, for a spot on the newly-minted bracket.

Week 1 of the Queen City Crown starts on Wednesday, October 7th, at 7:00 p.m. ET. Week 2 will take place one week later, on Wednesday, October 14th. The next Tournament is the Big Apple Battle at Watkins Glen International, the first of two IMSA-backed events on the season that will utilize the Ford Mustang GT4. Time Attacks open on October 20th and run until October 25th.
