2020 highlights

What may have started as an average season ended on a high note for Letarte Esports, when veteran Chris Shearburn eked out a surprise victory — his first — in the championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Rookie Santiago Tirres had a forgettable season and won’t return to the Coca-Cola iRacing Series in 2021, but we suspect we haven’t heard the last from Santi yet.

For Bobby Zalenski, the team’s new recruit, it was undoubtedly his breakout season: he won three races, tied for most in the series in 2020, made the Championship 4, and nearly won it all.

2021 outlook

Letarte’s team takes a major step up for 2021 in signing Zalenski. The three road courses are basically three guaranteed wins (Zalenski’s won six straight), and he’s become formidable just about everywhere.

Don’t count out Chris Shearburn, either; his Homestead win was long overdue, and he stepped up his performance considerably last year compared to 2019. A 13th-place ranking isn’t terribly far from the top eight.

Steve’s bold prediction

Bobby Zalenski’s destined for the Championship 4 again, while Chris Shearburn’s a sleeper for making the playoffs. The team’s in a good place for 2021.
