2020 highlights

While a victory eluded Wood Brothers Racing in 2020, it doesn’t mean the team was stranger to the front of the field. Garrett Lowe’s rock-solid regular season — and uncanny four runner-up finishes — helped him coast into the playoffs, while Chris Overland found himself in contention late at Auto Club Speedway (fifth) and Homestead-Miami Speedway (second).

Overland won’t return to the series for a ninth season in 2021, opening a hole for John Gorlinsky, who departs William Byron eSports. Gorlinsky scored four top-10 finishes in 2020 in his first starts since 2013.

2021 outlook

Garrett Lowe returns for a second season with the Wood Brothers after a successful 2020. He was really good at racking up points and steering clear of trouble last season, and he’s a safe bet for the playoffs if he continues the trend.

John Gorlinsky managed to keep his spot in the Coca-Cola iRacing Series, though his 19th-place ranking was a close call. It’s now the 10th anniversary of Gorlinsky’s runner-up season, where he scored two wins on his way to the silver medal. If he can work the magic from a decade ago — or even from the start of his 2020 season — he’s a contender again.

Steve’s bold prediction

Garrett Lowe returns to Victory Lane after a whole bunch of second-place finishes. That’s an obvious one.

John Gorlinsky manages to convince the Wood Brothers (and perhaps sponsor, Spin) to run his classic bright-yellow car at least once. You know, synergy with the occasional real-life Menards car.
