Bristol, Bristol, Bristol. The track famous for its bumper-beating action left just as many drivers as frustrated in iRacing as it tends to do in the real world. The eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series hit the world’s fastest half-mile Sunday — and it was one filled with dented virtual sheet metal.
Does @iRacing have virtual fights? I will be watching @NASCAR @BMSupdates to see all the action on @NASCARONFOX @FS1
— Mark Martin (@markmartin) April 5, 2020
It turns out virtual fighting might have come in handy. Mark Martin is a visionary.
After climbing aboard with Charcuterie Chad and virtual Greg Erwin, we first caught two 50-lap heat races.

Poor Greg. He’s been on this box all week punching in calculations pic.twitter.com/jSez1dmeLk
— Wood Brothers Racing (@woodbrothers21) April 5, 2020
It’s true; there was an ulterior motive behind adding heats to the race format. Alex Bowman cracked the code.
Did we do heat races so we could have nap time or bathroom breaks?
— Alex Bowman (@AlexBowman88) April 5, 2020
FOX in-race reporter Clint Bowyer kept things interesting (is that the right word?) during Heat 2.
Hey @ClintBowyer, it’s a race car not a weapon 😂 #ProInvitationalSeries
— Aric Almirola (@Aric_Almirola) April 5, 2020
CLINT BOWYER 😂
— Kaz Grala (@KazGrala) April 5, 2020
Homestead winner and usual race streamer Denny Hamlin couldn’t broadcast his afternoon, but still gave us a preview of the action prior to the race.
Sorry guys, no stream today. Been practicing all morning for this one. Might need to use this move driving to the front from the back. pic.twitter.com/qnptumN0yN
— Denny Hamlin (@dennyhamlin) April 5, 2020
In the main event, Clint Bowyer’s eventful afternoon continued, tangling with Bubba Wallace early — who went on to park for the day after a frustrating series of events.
🤦♂️
— Aric Almirola (@Aric_Almirola) April 5, 2020
Yeahhhhh. Car high homie. Still there still there https://t.co/qN73mdB39S
— Bubba Wallace (@BubbaWallace) April 5, 2020
Bahaha I'm dying at my mentions right now…
I ruined so many peoples day by quiting..a video game..
Bahaha. A video game. Damn quarantine life is rough😂😂😂
— Bubba Wallace (@BubbaWallace) April 5, 2020
Where’s Clint?

The NASCAR on FOX broadcast duo of Mike Joy and Jeff Gordon thought an Emmy award in the background shot of Parker Kligerman’s onboard screen belonged to Kligerman, who after the race set the record straight.
I can’t stop laughing about the Emmy @mikejoy500 & @JeffGordonWeb .
As you said it’s my better half @shannyleighh – but disappointed you weren’t enamored with the 2016 ARCA IRP pile award! pic.twitter.com/sRa7QG1j3W

Fireworks continued when tempers boiled over for both Kyle Larson and Daniel Suarez, who collided a handful of times under caution, leading to the pair parked by race control for the day.
Parked: @Daniel_SuarezG and @KyleLarsonRacin.
Real Bristol AND virtual Bristol = Tempers pic.twitter.com/ZdUnzK9Xj2

I was waiting for @iRacing to get him disqualified like i was last weekend in 5 seconds, but they never did… and by the way our “racing incident” was him pushing me to the apron… if this was real life my amigo would get his but kicked 🍑🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/2Lyj7Xf53j
— Daniel Suárez (@Daniel_SuarezG) April 5, 2020
Did you know? Today's iRacing event from @BMSupdates marked the first time that there was a double disqualification before #WrestleMania had even started. #NASCAR #ProInvitationalSeries
— nascarcasm (@nascarcasm) April 5, 2020
Says Suarez: it’s all fun and games!
We are very passionate and competitive but this is just a game, everyone needs to chill out. 😗 https://t.co/TrVfA9B7Zf
— Daniel Suárez (@Daniel_SuarezG) April 5, 2020
Jimmie Johnson brought the caution out after contact with Kurt Busch, but Johnson said his spotter — not a real person, but rather iRacing’s virtual spotter — was to blame.
On his stream, @JimmieJohnson says the automated spotter in the sim keeps telling him “clear” and he goes up and it turns out he’s not clear. Caused him to wreck twice now.
— Jeff Gluck (@jeff_gluck) April 5, 2020
I just fired my virtual spotter
— Jimmie Johnson (@JimmieJohnson) April 5, 2020
Sorry, pre-recorded voice of Joey Logano’s spotter TJ Majors. But, no, Johnson’s replacement won’t be the familiar sounds of Earl Barban and former crew chief Chad Knaus moving forward.
Chad yelled at me enough for 17 years, why would I want more?? https://t.co/RBoh00Xn3F
— Jimmie Johnson (@JimmieJohnson) April 5, 2020
Johnson wasn’t the only one with a spotter to blame.
Mine too.
Came up on @AlexBowman88 with no clue he was there from my spotter.Sorry Alex https://t.co/9ON6fbFAev
— Brad Keselowski (@keselowski) April 5, 2020
In familiar Bristol fashion, the race had its share of cautions. But that just means more time for social media, right?
I’m going to fire up my @iRacing and log in, at this rate I’ll still get a top 10! 😂😂😂 @NASCARONFOX
— Regan Smith (@ReganSmith) April 5, 2020
Barney the Virtual @iRacing Flagman has had to spastically wave so many caution flags that his virtual arm is going to just snap off around lap 80 and land on the track, necessitating another caution, which Barney will then throw with his one remaining arm because he's hardcore.
— nascarcasm (@nascarcasm) April 5, 2020
.@bobpockrass does virtual Bristol have lights? We might need them
— Alex Bowman (@AlexBowman88) April 5, 2020
Wow, Jimmie, was nothing your fault Sunday? (We kid … unless?)
Missed my pit box. Since I’ve made exactly no mistakes on Iracing today – we’re going to #BlameJG
— Jimmie Johnson (@JimmieJohnson) April 5, 2020
A popular feature of FOX’s broadcast was the onboard, in-room shot of Ty Dillon behind the wheel — his room dotted with sponsor memorabilia, including signage that was definitely printed out in Microsoft Word in haste before the race.
Respect @tydillon for the @GEICO sponsor love. 👏

We’re fans of the effort, Ty.
With 626 incident points scored among the field by iRacing’s calculation, Sunday’s event was a slugfest — and it was a blast to watch. The drivers had fun, too.
Damn.. finally made it to the front and ran out of laps. Gotta work on qualifying
— Denny Hamlin (@dennyhamlin) April 5, 2020
Finally finished 1 this 💩 is frustrating. Thanks to all my helpers including @WhitneyDillon @breynolds_66 @anthonyalfredo and @Benesch12. #ProInvitationalSeries @DowRacing

Cant catch a break to finish one of these @iRacing @NASCAR #ProSeriesInvitational events.

One big thing from this week – @KyleBusch is going to win one of these races. Of all the drivers with very little experience @iRacing he has progressed at an incredible rate. #ProInvitationalSeries
— Parker Kligerman (@pkligerman) April 5, 2020
Today’s @iRacing event at Bristol was a fun one. Went south after I sped on pit road. Still enjoyed myself and appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it. Ready for the next one.
— Dale Earnhardt Jr. (@DaleJr) April 5, 2020
In the end, it was William Byron who dominated the race after setting the fastest qualifying lap, winning the pole by virtue of winning his heat race, then leading 116 of the 150 laps en route to his first eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series victory. It’s safe to say he earned this one.
Got the Bristol Win today with @NASCAR @iRacing! Love this track thankful it worked out in our favor. Thank you @AxaltaRacing @LibertyU @Hertz pic.twitter.com/EPyxi7BmOO
