Wide World of Esports: Flagman Barney’s real-world debut, Rain Delay 200, and a Germain Gaming sweep

Barney the flagman makes an appearance at Darlington

We’re not sure if our eyes are playing tricks on us, but it sure looked like Barney, iRacing’s always-enthusiastic, shoulder-cartilage-tearing flagman paid a visit to the real world to wave the green flag in the NASCAR Cup Series race from Darlington Raceway.

The flagger was identified as Joey Aycock, who earned himself an iRacing VIP account.

It’s undeniable that’s Barney, right? Maybe the real world mimics the sim-racing world now. What a year 2020 has been. (I mean, @nascarcasm even has a Barney shirt.)

1987 NASCAR Cup Series cars drop next week

It’s not like we’re counting down the days or anything, but iRacing’s 1987-style NASCAR Cup Series cars are scheduled for release in next week’s Season 3 build. We’re just a little excited.

(OK, we’re really excited.)

Xfinity Series Rain Delay 200

When the Xfinity Series race was delayed for rain, Landon Cassill and Parker Kligerman took matters into their own hands to hold a race with real-world drivers at Darlington.

Denny Hamlin won the race with a gutsy last-lap move on Ryan Truex.

Maybe it was enough practice to propel him to Victory Lane in the NASCAR Cup Series at Darlington.

Friday: Coca-Cola iRacing Series from Atlanta

The eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series makes a rare Friday night appearance at Atlanta Motor Speedway, moved from its usual Tuesday-night time in favor of the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s the first stop at Atlanta for the world’s best sim racers since 2018.

Our Power Rankings provide an idea of who to watch.

Heat Pro League: Germain Gaming sweeps Mid-Ohio

Germain Gaming put together a pair of impressive races Thursday in the eNASCAR Heat Pro League’s trip to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, winning on both the Xbox and PlayStation 4 platforms.

This week, drivers will prepare to go fast at Talladega Superspeedway on Thursday as Segment 2 of the season continues. Catch the action at beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

Friday: NASCAR PEAK Mexico iRacing Series from Michigan

The drivers of the NASCAR PEAK Mexico Series continue to use iRacing to pass the time until real racing returns. Pietro and Enzo Fittipaldi will join the action this Friday from Michigan International Speedway.

iRacing paint scheme of the week

Chase Elliott is racing this truck in tonight’s Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race at Charlotte. Technically, this sharp-looking truck is an iRacing paint scheme, so it fits the bill for our iRacing paint scheme of the week.
