Wide World of Esports: iRacing on NBCSN Thursday, Kyle Larson’s “simulator chassis,” and PEAK throwback paint schemes

iRacing on NBCSN’s NASCAR America Thursday

The stars of the eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series will follow up on their recent national television debut with another race on NBCSN’s NASCAR America program Thursday.

In honor of NASCAR Throwback Weekend, the all-star drivers head to Rockingham Speedway, which, while laser-scanned by iRacing, hasn’t hosted Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series-style cars since 2004.

You won’t want to miss it — tune in to NBCSN Thursday at 5 p.m. ET.

Ride around virtual Road America with Blake Koch

Just because filter-peddler Blake Koch isn’t racing right now doesn’t mean he isn’t still … racing, as he takes us around a lap at the tricky Road America, site of last weekend’s Xfinity Series race — won by iRacing regular Christopher Bell.

PEAK iRacing Series drivers get lessons from Bubba Wallace

Richmond Raceway eSports drivers Malik Ray and Jimmy Mullis had an unforgettable experience at Charlotte Motor Speedway, making the transition from iRacing cars to real-life cars with help from Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Bubba Wallace.

Larson’s first iRacing rig

Ah, from humble beginnings. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson shared a bit of nostalgia when visiting his parents’ home over the Cup Series off weekend — his iRacing “simulator chassis” (yes, a loose definition of the term — but, hey, it’s throwback week and this is a throwback).

So much realistic motion and force feedback from that repurposed wooden dining chair.

Tonight: PEAK iRacing Series at Darlington

The eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series kicks off its eight-driver playoffs tonight at Darlington Raceway.

In the PEAK iRacing Series, a playoff driver who wins one of the three playoff races — Darlington, Indianapolis, and the Charlotte road course — automatically advances to the championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway October 8.

Last week’s winner Casey Kirwan didn’t make the playoff cut, but he’s built momentum in his Clint Bowyer Racing Ford in recent weeks, ready to play the role of spoiler.

Retzlaff continues to dominate IGNITE Series playoffs

Parker Retzlaff just can’t be beaten, it seems, remaining undefeated after three races in the NASCAR Modified-style cars used in the eNASCAR IGNITE Series playoffs.

The playoffs march on Thursday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the final race before the September 12 championship race at Martinsville.

iRacing Paint Scheme of the Week

Ken Huff painted a throwback paint scheme to a fellow Ken — Ken Schrader — from Schrader’s 1995 Gander Trucks season for iRacing’s 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.

Ken Schrader Iracing Paint Scheme Throwback

As a bonus, take a look at some PEAK iRacing Series throwback paint schemes for tonight’s race at Darlington.

Video of the Week

Sure, it’s not footage from a racing sim, but we can certainly relate to Anthony Alfredo’s comments when it comes to competing online.

Bonus Video of the Week

What, two videos? Why not? PEAK iRacing Series driver Malik Ray shared a tense moment hopping behind the wheel for the first time. Don’t worry — he got the hang of it after getting a feel for the car, not to mention some coaching from Bubba Wallace.
