Bubba Wallace Seat Swap

Bubba Wallace, PEAK iRacing Series drivers swap seats at Charlotte Motor Speedway

An off-week for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series didn’t mean a rest from racing entirely for Bubba Wallace.

Driver No. 43 visited Charlotte Motor Speedway Wednesday to hit the track to turn some hot laps — on a simulator, that is. Luckily for Wallace, he was in the company of experts: Richmond Raceway eSports drivers Malik Ray and Jimmy Mullis, who compete in the eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series.

After introductions, the trio of racers competed head-to-head(-to-head).

But the day didn’t end there — no, not until Bubba Wallace got to teach the sim racers a thing or two in a real car. A true seat swap.

That’s right — the Richmond Raceway eSports drivers got the opportunity of a lifetime racing legends cars at Charlotte Motor Speedway, coached by none other than Bubba Wallace himself.

For Malik Ray, it was his first time ever behind the wheel of a physical race car. His only prior racing experience came through iRacing — in fact, he’d never even driven a car with a stick shift. But, surely, having Bubba Wallace as a driving teacher — combined with a solid PEAK iRacing Series rookie season — made the transition a little easier.

Jimmy Mullis had the opportunity once before to try out a real-world car and relished the chance to give it a shot again, especially when mentored by Bubba.

What a day it was. Not a bad reward for a successful regular season!

The eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series returns to action Tuesday, August 27 for the first round of series playoffs, streaming live on at 9 p.m. ET.
