Wide World of Esports: Heat World Challenge II, Ricky Bobby Challenge, and Hendrick GC

Spencer Boyd’s Ricky Bobby Challenge

NASCAR racer Spencer Boyd shared his attempt at what’s being called the “Ricky Bobby Challenge” — attempting to race at iRacing in a stock car at night when it’s impossible to see.

Maybe he should have asked Bob Pockrass on Twitter if Dover had lights before attempting a lap.

NASCAR Heat World Challenge II Begins

The second iteration of the NASCAR Heat World Challenge features a unique twist: exclusively dirt racing. From now through May 19, drivers will compete for the fastest lap times on four different dirt tracks featured in NASCAR Heat 3.

Players will compete for a variety of prizes, including Amazon gift cards and DLC codes.

Hendrick GC Launches

Hendrick Motorsports announced the creation of their esports arm: Hendrick GC. The organization will compete in the NASCAR Heat Pro League, set to kick off later this spring.

Sam Morris will drive Hendrick GC’s No. 5 entry on the Xbox One platform, while Nick Jobes will pilot the team’s No. 25 Chevrolet on PlayStation 4.

Ryan Ellis Returns

PR guy and occasional NASCAR driver Ryan Ellis announced his return to the virtual track on Twitter this week, showcasing a shiny new triple-screen sim racing rig. We’re jealous.

Gragson Prepares for Talladega

Even though it’s impossible to plan for the unknowns of racing at Talladega, NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Noah Gragson spent the week running laps on iRacing ahead of his race Saturday.

Will it work? We’ll find out in Saturday’s MoneyLion 300 (1 p.m. ET on FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

JRM Highlights Conti

JR Motorsports published an interview with their eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series driver, Michael Conti.

The 22-year-old from New Jersey spoke about his rise through the iRacing ranks and how his goals include becoming a professional driver, despite limited real-world racing experience.

Tonight: eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series @ Talladega

The eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series makes its sixth stop of the 2019 season tonight at Talladega Superspeedway (4/23, 9 p.m. ET,

The race presents several unknowns for drivers: The series hasn’t visited Talladega since 2013, where less than a quarter of the 2019 field started the race. Plus, like Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, it’ll be the first time the drivers race with the latest superspeedway package. The Laughton brothers — Joshua and Chad — went 1-2 in the last Talladega race nearly six years ago.

Ryan Luza has won the last two series races and looks to make it a third tonight.

iRacing Paint Scheme of the Week

Mike E. Holloway assembled a replica of Brett Moffitt’s Gander Outdoors Truck Series ride for iRacing. Even though it’s sponsored by an airline, we hope the truck doesn’t go virtually airborne during Talladega week.
