Wide World of eSports: Dale on Dirt, Heat Pro League Draft, and a surprise phone call

Dale on Dirt

Dale Earnhardt Jr. showed off his graduation from the iRacing rookie license level — on dirt, that is. We already know Junior’s killer when it comes to asphalt ovals.

Speaking of Dale Jr. racing on asphalt ovals, it seems he was spotted turning laps at Talladega shortly after iRacing’s new build release last week.

Hattor-iRacing

Defending NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series champions Hattori Racing hosted some exhibition events on iRacing throughout the week, featuring team drivers Austin Hill and Max McLaughlin.

Ray vs. Ty

Former NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Ty Majeski is the top-ranked driver on iRacing in terms of iRating — the skill ranking statistic used by iRacing to determine driver speed. In fact, Majeski holds the top two spots on two different accounts because he’s that darn good.

But, what if four-time eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series driver Ray Alfalla focused his efforts on knocking Majeski off the top of the pile?

Majeski was quick to remind Alfalla, who drives for Wood Brothers Racing, he’d need to accomplish this feat twice.

Kyle Long’s Mode Motorsports Joins PEAK iRacing Series

Chicago Bears guard and sim racer Kyle Long announced Friday he’s thrown his hat in the ring with the formation of Mode Motorsports in the eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series.

Mode Motorsports will field Fords for drivers Phil Diaz and Cody Byus. The team was welcomed warmly by competitors.

Inaugural Heat Pro League Draft in the books

On Sunday at ISM Raceway, the inaugural eNASCAR Heat Pro League draft was held. NASCAR teams — 14 in total — drafted top eSports drivers following a grueling, months-long process. Drivers worked to prove they’ve got the total package: speed, talent, racecraft, and marketability — the same skills a NASCAR team looks for in a driver in the top rungs of the racing world.

NASCAR President Steve Phelps and Hall of Famer Richard Petty were present at the event, in addition to Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series stars Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, William Byron, Bubba Wallace, Austin Dillon, Ty Dillon, Matt DiBenedetto and Ryan Preece.

Greg Matarazzo (SkrrtBusch) was drafted first for Chip Ganassi Racing on Xbox One, while Slade Gravitt (SladeG84) was the first pick on PlayStation 4, drafted by Wood Brothers Racing.

PEAK iRacing Series at Auto Club Speedway

The eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series made its fourth stop of the season at Auto Club Speedway Tuesday night.

Eric J. Smith won his first career eNASCAR PEAK Antifreeze iRacing Series race in thrilling fashion, narrowly beating Keegan Leahy to the checkered flag.

For the first time in 2019, drivers competed using a simulation of NASCAR’s new aero rules package designed to keep racing more competitive. Drivers entered the race with a major unknown factor, but the race did not disappoint.

iRacing Paint Scheme of the Week

This week’s paint scheme isn’t really a paint scheme at all — more of a relatable occurrence. Richmond Raceway wins this time.
